About this knitting mom
So… about me…

Me and Gariníon
Catholic. Wife. Mom. Army Mom. Grandma. Godmother. Friend. Homeschooler. Knitter. (Audio)Book Lover. Texan.
I am 45 years old and have been married 25 years and have 6 terrific kids, a beautiful daughter-in-law and a gorgeous grandbaby! (My kids’ ages: 24, 22, 16, 14, 11, 4… 3 of each and yes, they all have the same parents.) Our oldest married in 2009 and our first grandchild was born in May 2010 ~ A beautiful granddaughter!. My faith and family are the most important things in my life. Faith is not just something I “do” it is who I am, so while this is my knitting blog, do not be surprised nor offended if my faith and family finds its way in here. It’s as natural to me as my own skin, so I can’t really leave it behind. Knitting comes second to those first priorities. A very close second!
- I’ve only been knitting for about 10 years, but I took to it immediately and I knit all the time a lot of the time. I have tempered the obsession a bit in order to do MY JOB… taking care of my family and home.
- My favorite thing to knit is baby items, most specifically longies and shorties. Being a new grandma is pretty exciting for me in so many ways, but for the purpose of this blog, you know what that means!! Lots of baby knitting for me!!!!
- I LOVE wool, but I am happy to knit with blends, some acrylics and cotton! Honestly, I love great yarn as much as the next knitter, but I am not a snob and I honor my budget by not buying yarn that costs as much as a nice dinner meal (for the 6 of us left at home) for 50 or 100 gr. I’m just not givig into to THAT kind of peer pressure. No. If that makes me less of a knitter in some folks’ minds, then so be it. I’ll enjoy knitting AND my steak and potatoes, thanks!
- I DO NOT like to knit with wooden (or plastic) needles. I love nice, smooth, FAST metal needles.
- I do not have a LYS… so I order most of my yarn online and if I need something in a hurry, we have a Hobby Lobby in town and, of course, Wally-World carries a few basic things. Well, now I do have a LYS! YIPPEE! The store is new and still building inventory, but I’ll do my best, within my budget, to keep them in business!
Thanks, Dawn! - I like to write my own patterns. By “write” I mean “make up” because half of the time I don’t actually write anything!
- I too often spend time knitting when I should be doing something else… like cooking and cleaning!
- I drive my family crazy with all the knitting crap everywhere! I have gotten most of it under control in recent months, but it took a LOT of effort. I like being surrounded by it, so putting it away wasn’t fun for me, but I don’t want them to hate that I knit.
- On 3 January 2008 I took the plunge and enrolled in the TKGA Master Hand Knitter Course, Level I and as of 18 May 2010 I still haven’t done anything with it. I mean, really, there is so much REAL knitting to do that I just don’t think about all of those silly swatches. One day, though. One day.
- I do have a couple of other things I like to do. I do like to read, but I am partial to audiobooks these days (they free my hands!) and I sew a little bit (but recently broke my machine. I need to get it into the repair shop!)
- On June 4, 2010, I took the first step to “opening” an etsy shop. I signed up with the username I wanted (Máthair Chríonna~it means “grandmother”). Small step, but it’s a start!!!
I’m also an exclusive Mac/Apple user. I’ve never owned a PC. I never will. My computer (MacBook Pro), my phone (iPhone 3 GS) and my MP3/4 player (iPod Touch) are all Apple products. It’s the only way to go.
Sometimes on my other blog, I’ve been asked what kind of camera I use. My main and favorite camera is my Nikon D50 DLSR. I also have a Nikon P80 point-and-shoot for back-up. I’ve always used Nikons, too ~ even back to my 35mm film days. My video camera is a Sony with a 60gb HD (I don’t foresee putting videos here, but you know, just in case!)
I am a Texan! What country are y’all from?
